Daily Scripture Reading: Matthew 16:13-19
“Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’” Matthew 16:13 (ESV)
Jesus wasn’t questioning the disciples because He was insecure and in need of affirmation or encouragement. This question went far deeper than that. Peter answers by affirming that He is “the Christ, the son of the living God.” (v. 16) Jesus responds with a resounding Yes! and goes on to proclaim that not even the gates of Hell are powerful enough to prevail against this truth.
So what? Why is this so important? Because what we believe to be true about Jesus will determine how we live every moment of every day.
Set aside 30 minutes and ask yourself the same question Jesus asked Peter. Who do you say Jesus is? How is that truth being affirmed or denied by your actions?
