40 Days of Lent | Day 21: Gracious Mercy

Daily Scripture Reading: Mark 6:14-29

“…Jesus’ name had become known. Some said, ‘John the Baptist has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.’”  Mark 6:14 (ESV)

Herod was both aggravated by and fascinated with John the Baptist. He liked to listen to John teach, but he struggled with his words and failed to face his sin. He thought throwing John into a dark prison cell under his palace would silence him.

John’s life ended one gruesome night when Herod’s daughter asked for his head on a platter. It was a horrible death for a faithful prophet, but Jesus showed that John’s ministry was not in vain, and He made a way to defeat death for all who are faithful to Him.

Will you tell someone how Jesus has redeemed and restored your life? Or maybe you’re not quite there yet. Maybe you’re holding onto something from the past and it just won’t let up. Are you willing to release it to Him today?
