40 Days of Lent | Day 19: Worthy of It All

Daily Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:44-52

“…The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.” Matthew 13:45-46 (ESV)

Today’s passage is from a collection of parables that serves as a window into who Christ is and how He shapes us to be like Him. As we read, a beautiful picture of the Christian life begins to unfold. The first two parables liken the Kingdom of Heaven to a treasure and a pearl worthy of devotion and pursuit. The responses of both the man and the merchant reveal a profound truth that we cannot miss: When we believe Christ and see His kingdom for what it really is, the natural overflowing response is to pursue Him with our whole lives.

Read the last two parables in this passage again. What might be keeping you from believing that Jesus and His Kingdom alone are enough for you to completely surrender to Him?
